I heard this song the other night, and it was a great encouragement to me, so I wanted to post it here. It was a reminder to me that God is sovereign over all the sufferings, pain, and disappointments of this life, and that He can use those trials to give us greater blessings that we can imagine.

Laura Story married her husband Marvin in 2005, and a short time later, he was diagnosed with a brain tumor. He had surgery to remove it, which was successful, but he still suffers from memory loss, and vision problems. Check out this video to hear Laura describe what she has learned about the definition of ‘blessings’ through walking through this trial.

“Could God actually be blessing us by not giving us what we’re praying for?”

“There is a blessedness that comes through waiting on the Lord. There’s an intimacy that comes when you’re walking through that valley. There’s a reliance on his Word that we only know when everything else in life fades away.”

We pray for blessings
We pray for peace
Comfort for family, protection while we sleep
We pray for healing, for prosperity
We pray for Your mighty hand to ease our suffering
All the while, You hear each spoken need
Yet love us way too much to give us lesser things
‘Cause what if your blessings come through raindrops
What if Your healing comes through tears
What if a thousand sleepless nights are what it takes to know You’re near
What if trials of this life are Your mercies in disguise
We pray for wisdom
Your voice to hear
We cry in anger when we cannot feel You near
We doubt your goodness, we doubt your love
As if every promise from Your Word is not enough
All the while, You hear each desperate plea
And long that we’d have faith to believe
When friends betray us
When darkness seems to win
We know that pain reminds this heart
That this is not our home
What if my greatest disappointments
Or the aching of this life
Is the revealing of a greater thirst this world can’t satisfy
What if trials of this life
The rain, the storms, the hardest nights
Are your mercies in disguise
